Do not buy true e-ink for daily coding. If buying now, find a returnable Daylight DC-1; otherwise wait.

Why

Interactive reflective LCD is the right display class. Cursor movement and scrolling matter more than maximum paper resemblance.
The Daylight DC-1 has the strongest real workflow evidence for Termux, SSH, tmux, Neovim, and an external keyboard.
HannsNote2 is cheaper, but weak battery, standby drain, Wi-Fi reports, and thin coding evidence make it a bad daily-driver bet.
Eazeye Focus remains a no-buy until the shipping hardware and sales claims settle.

Before paying

Confirm live stock, Thailand delivery, return terms, and keyboard modifier behavior. Then demand one honest three-hour test: Wi-Fi SSH, Ctrl/Esc-heavy editing, suspend and resume, readable contrast, and no dropped keyboard input.

Decision gate refreshed 13 August 2026. The 4.2-inch ESP32-S3 RLCD board remains a useful pocket terminal or field tool, not a notebook-scale coding machine.
